Ghanaian female team close to qualification at Hockey Nations Cup in Kenya
Ghana’s senior female hockey team have positioned themselves well to pick one of the continent’s tickets for  next year’s World Cup in Holland after thrashing Tanzania 18-0 and drawing 1-1 with powerhouse, South Africa. This was after two days of action at the ongoing Hockey Nations Cup at the City Park in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Minnows of Tanzania have become the whipping girls in the tournament, which means that the team which records the highest score line against the East African country stands a good chance of picking the sole ticket from the group.
Unlike the ladies, the Ghanaian male team being coached by one of the country’s finest, Winfred Sackey, have struggled so far and they don’t appear to stand a good chance of making it to Holland.
According to reports forwarded by the Tournament’s Director, Richard Akpokavi, the men lost 2-6 to South Africa and surprisingly were defeated 0-2 by the hosts, Kenya.
Only a miracle can save the men’s team, who, although are reported to be selling out some scintillating ‘Ghana brand’ of hockey, cannot get their rhythm right.
In the other matches in the November 18-24 tournament, the Kenya Ladies walloped Tanzania 13-1 while Egypt, rated as the continent’s second best after South Africa, lost 1-6 to South Africa.
Apparently, the political upheaval in Egypt is affecting the once feared squad as they have been struggling in the tournament which ends on Sunday.
But they managed a comeback to beat Kenya men 3-2 while the South African Ladies beat their Kenyan counterparts 3-1.
Today,  the South Africa Ladies play Tanzania, and Kenya engage Ghana (Ladies) while in the men’s category, Ghana lock horns with Egypt and South Africa face off with Kenya.
